The Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan I felt compelled to pick up a copy when I was shopping yesterday, after seeing the trailer for the movie earlier in the week. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, OK it did remind me a little of Harry Potter (I but don't think it's as good as Harry).

But like I say, I was pleasantly surprised. Percy has been to a lot of schools, he has ADHD and also dyslexia and a knack for getting into trouble. The book starts with him vapourising his Maths teacher. From this he learns that he is special (in a good way), that he's the son of a greek God - finds himself at a summer camp for half bloods and lands a quest - to find Zeus's Master Lightning bolt (which he is suspected of stealing).

The story races along at a great pace and packs a lot in, we meet the furies, the fates, medusa, the minotaur (amongst others), as well as several Gods.

I'm intrigued to see what Percy does next.
