Hmmmm, I really, really liked this book. A rollicking Victorian adventure concerning Miss Alexia Tarabotti (spinster), placed on the shelf by her inadequate mother at the age of 26. The reason for such harsh treatment? Having a dead Italian father, permanent tan, an unfortunate nose and the un-nerving ability to speak intelligently (if rather bluntly) on a number of topics. Who on earth would wish to marry such a woman? How about a Scottish Werewolf??
Add to that the fact that Alexia is "Soulless", she possesses no soul and is able to remove the supernatural element from any werewolf, vampire etc with just a touch. It is a skill she keeps well hidden from all except her most trusted friends.
Poor Alexia is drawn into a most distressing situation involving newly made Vampires, a most suspect gentlemens club and a gentlemen with a prediliction for Octopuses. Not to mention a most suprised hedgehog!
I cannot wait to read the next in the series.
Seriously - it's been a long time since a book made me smile virtually the entire way through (it also caused a tear when Alexia fulfilled her promise to Lord Akaldama - such a wonderful friendship).
