To start off with, I have to say that I LOVE Cat and Bones - well I love Bones, so I was intrigued to pick up this short story, which is the pre-quel to the first Night Huntress book.
In a nutshell, the story involves Bones on the trail of a couple of Ghouls that are on a killing spree in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. He also has to deal with another hitman (vamp) that's trying to fulfill a contract on him.
In the course of his quest to get to the Ghouls he gets involved with a pretty (but a bit too thin), hairdresser, who might have seen something.
I was surprised by poor Becca's ending, after getting her some Bones action I didn't think Frost would go that route.
Although the story was short there was something missing, which counts for the low score. It's just not the same without Cat - no snarky one liners, no smouldering sexiness, no ripping each others clothes off and breaking furniture.
Just a blond haired vamp, with a british accent and troubled soul.
I still love him though.
