Spade and Denise, hmmm.
When Denise finds herself targeted by a demon - intent on killing her and her entire family, in a quest to track down a relative that sent him back to hell - who does she think to call? Well, Cat and Bones's numbers were out of service, so I guess that leaves Spade.
Funny one Spade, he always seemed so reserved, but willing to do anything to help his best friend. Here we learn his back story, why he pulls away from humans - but how he feels drawn to Denise until he's fallen in love with her.
While not on same level as the Night Huntress series, this was good fun. Ian had me laughing out loud with just one work "Paybacks". The thought of Denise shape-shifting into a cat was great, scratching and hissing while Spade carried her around in a cat-carrier.
Denise was a bit too whiney for my liking, but thankfully she'd grown out of that by the end.
I kind of hope that Ian doesn't get his own book - I like him just as he is, drunk on Red Dragon, watching porn.
