Much better than [b:Lover Mine|7046495|Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8)|J.R. Ward|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1349079700s/7046495.jpg|7370233]. This is the story of Manny and Payne - but also Vishous and Jane. Thankfully all the lesser talk was replaced - with the Band of Bastards (yes, really).
So, Payne broke her back at the end of the last book and who can possibly save her? Dr Manny (you know, that guy, Jane's old boss at the hospital). After a few false starts he finds out that if he sexes her up a bit she can walk again! Unfortunately before they get that far Payne gets so depressed that she asks Jane to help her die - which V happens to walk in on.
This leads to possibly one of the most cringeworthy episodes of the whole series - Butch stringing up V to "hurt" him - to break him, so he can break down that barrier of ice he's built around his heart. Sorry, don't know what came over me there.
Meanwhile, back at the castle.... Xcor and his band of bastards come to America, having killed all the lessers in europe. Xcor is under the false idea that the Bloodletter was his father and he's been looking for Payne (because she killed him), so he can deal out a little payback. Xcor has a hare-lip, so does a lot of standing around in shadows. He also wants to become king.
Qhuinn starts have visions of the future - and puts an end to his sex addiction (because if he can't have Blay he doesn't want anyone). Layla - Biatch, step away from Qhiunn (you just know that she'll end up going into her needing and he'll be the only one around to service her).
So much happening, I loved Manny and Butch on the computer (how could you not know just from that they were related).
